Ask The Mad Man

Q. Kerry you have raced 206 races with the World Of Outlaws for 2 A-Feature wins. Just how tough is it to run with the World Of Outlaws? ( Daniel Beard, COBDEN, VIC )

A. Its definitely tough, I think every Sprintcar driver should aspire to race with the Outlaws and the stiff competition. To me there is nothing better than going where the best are and racing with them.Im not very good at just sitting somewhere and being the big fish in a small pond. I have to go and get where its at. I've got a lot of hard luck stories and those stats should definitely be better than that but thats where it's at. I feel like I belong with the Outlaws and Im quite competitive with them. Im really working hard to get back on the Outlaws circuit or doing as many Outlaw races as I can.

Q. How tough is it to compete on the World Of Outlaws with the big budget teams such as Kasey Kahne Racing and Tony Stewart Motorsports? ( Daniel Beard, COBDEN, VIC )

A. Honestly, I don't think its a big deal at all. A lot of people get psyched out about the big budgets and there is no doubt about it the more money the better and resources and access to wind tunnels and seven post shaker rigs and shock technology definitely gives them an edge. The 20 car has taken a while and the #9 car has taken three or four years to gel and it still hasnt won a championship yet. If you take a look the Meyers team, sure they have a big budget too, but he has pretty much done it all on his own. Ihonestly dont let it effect me and at the end of the day you can only race one car and one motor on any given night. I think a lot of people use that as an excuse.Ive never been in a big budget deal and Ive beaten the Outlaws at Parramatta in a deal I put together myself so it can be done. You just have to believe in yourself and work hard. It still about Sprintcar racing and its still about getting the car right on any given night and thats why I love it.
